Famosa por já ter batido o recorde em número de casamentos e divórcios entre as estrelas de Hollywood, a atriz Elizabeth Taylor (27/02/1932), nasceu em uma família religiosa de Londres. Pouco antes do final da Segunda Guerra Mundial, eles se mudaram para os Estados Unidos, mais precisamente para Beverly Hills. Logo que chegou à Califórnia, a mãe de Liz, Sara, a matriculou na mesma escola de dança freqüentada pelas filhas dos executivos de cinema. Em pouco tempo, os belos olhos cor de violeta e os negros cabelos dela chamaram a atenção dos produtores de Hollywood. Aos 10 anos, Liz estreava nas telas no filme da Universal Studios There’s One Born Every Minute (1942). Depois foi chamada pela Metro para atuar em Lassie / Lassie Come Home (1943) e em outros filmes com Mickey Rooney e Robert Taylor. Aos 18 anos, Liz foi contratada pela Paramount Studios e passou a interpretar personagens tórridos, como em Um Lugar ao Sol / A Place in the Sun (1951), em que contracenou com o galã Montgomery Clift. Mais madura, fez papéis sedutores em Assim Caminha a Humanidade / Giant (1956) e Gata em Teto de Zinco Quente / Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958). Nessa época, ela já havia se casado com Nicky Hilton, com o ator Michael Wilding e com o produtor Mike Todd, assassinado em 1958. Enquanto era consolada pelo melhor amigo de Todd, o cantor Eddie Fisher – então casado com a atriz Debbie Reynolds – Liz conquistava seu quarto marido. Depois de um ano de viuvez, Fisher e Taylor formavam um novo casal. Debbie anunciou o divórcio enquanto os dois viajavam juntos. Mas o relacionamento não durou muito mais do que o tempo de realização de dois filmes: Butterfield 8 (1960) e Cleópatra (1963). Em 1962, Fisher foi a Roma visitar sua mulher no set de filmagens de Cleópatra / Cleópatra e presenciou o início de novo romance durante um beijo de Marco Antônio, interpretado por Richard Burton, na rainha do Egito. Casados em 1964, Liz e Burton fizeram uma série de filmes juntos. Dez anos depois, eles se divorciaram. Ela então se uniu com o senador John Warner. Mas como continuava apaixonada por Burton, dois anos depois se reconciliou com ele. A incompatibilidade de gênios fez com que logo se separassem. Depois, ela só veio a casar novamente em 1991 com o construtor Larry Fortensky, que conheceu durante tratamento na Betty Ford Clinic. Em 1996, ela se divorciou de seu sétimo marido alegando “diferenças inconciliáveis”. |
