| Diretor americano surgido dos filmes B de Roger Corman, revelou-se, com Piranha e Gremlins, um novo mestre de suspense e terror, com muito humor e citações de filmes antigos. Nascido em Morristown, Nova Jersey, já como adolescente escreveu diversas revistas amadoras de cinema. Na década de 60 formou-se na firma New World, de Roger Corman, como montador (Fast Eddie... the Moonbeam, 1978, e Grand Theft, 1978). Com Allan Arkush dirigiu e montou Hollywood Boulevard, em 1977. Em 1979 escreveu o roteiro original de Rock'n Roll High School. Dirigiu também o departamento de trailers da New World (onde fez trailers, dentre outros, de Amarcord, Capone e Corrida da Morte Ano 2000). Após o sucesso de Grito de Horror e Gremlins (produção de Steven Spielberg), desapontou muito em Viagem ao Mundo dos Sonhos - apesar de ter revelado dois futuros astros, Hawke e Phoenix. A carreira que parecia promissora acabou caindo na rotina de filmes de gênero, alguns trabalhos para a TV e até um retorno à forma com Pequenos Guerreiros. Infelizmente foi fracasso. Parece que seu melhor momento já passou. Fez também episódios da série Esquadrão de Polícia (Police Squad, 1982) com Leslie Nielsen e Night Visions (2001), com epísódios Quiet Please, The Occupant. Nasceu em 28.11, em Morristown, New Jersey. |
